The Architectural League of New York appoints Jacob R. Moore as its new Executive Director

The Architectural League of New York has named Jacob R. Moore as its next Executive Director, following a thorough national search. Moore succeeds Rosalie Genevro, who announced her decision to step down last year after leading the organization for nearly 40 years.

“Jacob brings tremendous passion and a deep knowledge of the most important forces and issues impacting the built environment today,” said Mario Gooden, President of The League’s board of directors. “His vision for the future of The League and his commitment to equity, spatial justice, and the environment make him the ideal person to shape our next chapter.”

Moore will assume the position after most recently serving as the Associate Director of the Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture at Columbia University’s GSAPP. Kevin Lippert, influential Princeton Architectural Press founder, has passed away aged 63

The architecture and publishing worlds have lost an icon after news broke yesterday about the passing of legendary Princeton Architectural Press founder Kevin Lippert on March 29th following a long battle with cancer.

Lippert founded the Press while still a student at the Princeton University School of Architecture in 1981. He was instrumental in publishing Steven Holl’s seminal 1989 manifesto Anchoring, which launched the architect’s name into the mainstream and continues to be considered one of the most fundamental design texts of the past half-century.

Lynn Grady joins Princeton Architectural Press as publisher

After 15 years with HarperCollins, Lynn Grady joins Princeton Architectural Press as publisher, an appointment made effective early last month. Grady has more than 30 years of experience in the trade publishing world, delivering books such as Notorious RBG, Together We Rise, Rejected Princesses, the World According to Star Wars, Yes Please, and many others.

Jack Jensen, President of the McEvoy Group said in a statement, "[Grady] has great respect and admiration for the high-quality, distinctive list that Princeton creates and is firmly committed to continuing to burnish and grow the exceptional company that Kevin Lippert founded and has helped nurture over these many years."

But the 25 gates that rim the perimeter of Harvard Yard tell a different story: Gates are expressions of beginning, of belonging, of entry into something larger than oneself.

Blair Kamin, the Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic for the Chicago Tribune, has a new book out today, The Gates of Harvard Yard. Here, Kamin presents why the illustrious university's gate designs are worth investigating in an exclusive intro for Archinect, followed by an excerpted piece from the book.

A new illustrated biography, Balthazar Korab: Architect of Photography, by John Comazzi at the University of Minnesota School of Architecture tells the story of Balthazar Korab, one of the mid-twentieth century's most celebrated architecture photographers. It's the first book dedicated solely to Korab's life and career, with a portfolio of more than two hundred images from Korab's professionally commissioned architecture photography as well as close examinations of Saarinen's TWA Terminal at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York and the Miller House in Columbus, Indiana.
