The team’s owners, in conjunction with a group of local developers, are nearing an agreement with New York City that would allow the team to construct a privately financed, 25,000-seat stadium in the South Bronx as part of a development project costing more than $1 billion.</p></em><br /><br /><p>According to the <em>NYT</em>, the New York City Football Club may be close to sealing a deal with a group of developers to build a 25,000-seat soccer stadium complex in the South Bronx near Yankee Stadium. The project, which would also include retail, a hotel, a school, and much-needed affordable housing, has a few zoning hurdles to take first but reportedly has the blessing of New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.<br></p>
<p>"Though nothing has been finalized, there has been significant progress made, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our partners on this exciting project," wrote the club's CEO, Brad Sims, in a <a href="https://www.nycfc.com/post/2020/02/08/update-brad-sims" target="_blank">statement</a> released this weekend.
