The Barcelona-based practice was chosen from a <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150235217/ar-announces-2020-shortlist-for-emerging-architecture-awards" target="_blank">shortlist of 16 young architects and designers</a> around the world recognized as “the architectural stars of tomorrow.” </p>
<p>Founded in 2013, <a href="https://carlesenrich.com/" target="_blank">Carles Enrich Studio</a> focuses on interventions in <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/454060/catalonia" target="_blank">Catalonia’s</a> historical landscapes. Their celebrated works include the Merola Tower in Puig-reig, which saw a 13th-century stone tower reactivated by a contemporary timber structure. The firm’s previous accolades include nominations for the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/bustler/7020/check-out-some-of-the-amazing-projects-nominated-for-the-eu-mies-award" target="_blank">EU Mies Award</a> in 2017 and 2019 and participation in the 2012 and 2016 <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1689641/2021-venice-biennale" target="_blank">Venice Biennale</a>.</p>

Since 1999 the awards program focuses on creating a platform that highlights the work of young architects and designers. For this year's edition the shortlist recognizes emerging practices from all over the world. </p>
<p>Thanks to an esteemed panel of jury members, this year's judging was conducted remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic. Each practice led virtual presentations to a jury of previous AR Emerging Architecture finalists like <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/55355636/dorte-mandrup-arkitekter" target="_blank">Dorte Mandrup</a>, <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/149978205/aires-mateus" target="_blank">Manuel Aires Mateus</a>, and Sameep Padora. While the final judging and will take place during the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/14203/waf" target="_blank">WAF</a>Virtual, below is a list of the shortlisted practices and selected projects.</p>

<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/1c/1c24a67b8af013738feb545b23bb77cb.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>With 16 architects announced as shortlist winners back in October, the <em>Architectural Review</em> has announced <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/150173649/comunal-taller-de-arquitectura" target="_blank">Comunal Taller de Arquitectura</a> as the winner of <em>Architectural Review</em>'s 2019 Emerging Architecture Award. </p>
<p>The Mexico-based architecture firm was applauded for a project submission that focused on their community-driven work within the rural village of Tepetzintán in Mexico. According to this year's <em>AR</em> judging panel, the practice was recognized for its "fight against a political lobby that is vastly supportive of replicable, commercial housing development over housing seen as a human right." </p>
