World Architecture Festival (WAF) is where the world architecture community meets to celebrate, learn, exchange, and be inspired. This year, for the first time since 2015, the festival returns to Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on 29 November – 1 December.

WAF is the world’s largest annual, international, live architectural event. It includes the largest live architectural awards program in the world, dedicated to celebrating excellence via live presentations to an audience of high-profile delegates and international juries.

The best interior design projects announced in the World Festival of Interiors: INSIDE 2022 shortlist

After the World Architecture Festival just announced its 2022 shortlist featuring the best new projects, the program's sister event, the World Festival of Interiors (INSIDE 2022), has now revealed the finalists of the interior design competition.

Highlighting outstanding interiors ranging from hotels, workplaces, public buildings, and restaurants, this year's shortlist includes 65 projects from across the globe. According to INSIDE program director Paul Finch, this year's selection "focused on the flow of users in the interior space, with use of lobbies, landings, and stairs for social and learning engagement."

World Architecture Festival Awards reveals 2022 shortlist

The World Architecture Festival (WAF) has just unveiled the annual shortlist of new projects for this year's return to an in-person competition.

Competing under the theme of Together, the 420 total projects will vie for the live-judged festival’s 43 category prizes and culminating World Building, Future Project, Interior, and Landscape of the Year awards at the three-day event, which kicks off in Lisbon on November 30th. A new International Building Beauty Prize has been added for the 2022 cycle as well.

This year’s expanded shortlist includes projects from Foster + Partners, Zaha Hadid Architects, MVRDV, and a host of other large international firms, in addition to a number of lesser-known and small projects hailing from countries like Portugal, Thailand, Finland, and Malaysia.

Atelier tao+c's Capsule Hostel and Bookstore is the 2021 World Interior of the Year

In culmination of the two organization's shared annual awards program, the World Architecture Festival and INSIDE Festival of Interiors have just named the Capsule Hostel and Bookstore in Qinglongwu, China as the 2021 winner of the World Interior of the Year prize.

The design features a 20-person hostel and community bookstore space inserted into a 232-square-meter (2,500-square-foot) stone house set amongst the richly forested landscape of Zhejiang Province.

It doesn't happen every day that a large piece of urban infrastructure is crowned the globe's best new building design, but at today's closing ceremony of the annual World Architecture Festival, one industrial facility reigned supreme over a shortlist of 200 noteworthy new buildings: CopenHill, the illustrious waste-to-energy plant in Copenhagen also known as Amager Bakke, has been declared the World Building of the Year 2021.

Representing the Production, Energy & Recycling category, the Bjarke Ingels Group-designed project vastly expands the definition (and expectation) of an energy-sector facility, featuring a ski slope, hiking trail, and green terrains on its roof, sporting the world's tallest artificial climbing wall on its vertical facade as well as hosting a rooftop bar, cross-fit area, and a viewing plateau of the city.

Architectural Photography Awards: 24 photographers selected for this year's shortlist

In collaboration with the World Architecture Festival since 2012, the Architectural Photography Awards (APA) has been celebrating the work of professional and amateur photographers with a passion for capturing the beauty of architecture and the built environment.

According to APA organizers: "Images of the built world are ubiquitous, used beyond the world of architecture and design, you will see buildings in advertisements for finance, cars, travel and more. Despite the visibility of these images, their creators are invisible. The APA crosses sectors and continents to raise awareness of the skill of these photographers; their ability to translate the sophistication of the built world..."

Among 2000 entries this year, 24 photographers were chosen across the categories Exterior, Interior, Sense of Place, Building in Use, Mobile and Portfolio. Below is a selection of shortlisted photographs from each category.

In preparation for the "world's largest annual, international, live architecture event," the World Architecture Festival recently announced its shortlists for the best new buildings, landscapes, and interior projects from around the globe. As media partners of the WAF 2021 Awards, Archinect is showcasing this year's shortlisted projects.

Continuing with the Festival's awards program announcements, following is this year's shortlist for the WAF Certified Timber Prize. According to Ben Gunneberg, CEO of Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC): "It is inspiring to see the large variety of buildings in the finals, benefitting from the use of certified timber in so many ways. While some of the architects chose timber for its flexibility and robustness, others appreciate its natural look and the positive effects it has for people, climate, and the planet."

The World Festival of Interiors (Inside 2021) is the sister festival to the renowned World Architecture Festival. As media partners of the WAF 2021 Awards, Archinect showcased a selection of shortlisted projects for this year's World Architecture Festival awards program. According to the World Festival of Interiors, "this year's shortlist consists of over 100 of the very best designed interior projects by some of the world's foremost design and architecture firms across more than 20 countries."

The World Architecture Festival (WAF) announced its 2021 shortlist highlighting the best buildings and landscapes that have been completed around the world between 2019–2021. Recognized as the world's most extensive architectural awards program, this year's shortlist consists of 200 projects selected from 732 entries from 55 countries.

The theme for the 2021 edition of the festival is Resetting the City: Greening, Health, and Urbanism, and the awards attracted submissions across 20 completed buildings and landscape categories; an "increase of 44% in submissions from 2019's edition of the festival."

The World Architecture Festival Awards (WAFX Award) has announced 12 project initiatives that aim to address "some of the world’s most pressing challenges." The 2021 awards program celebrates project proposals from across the world tackling today’s global issues, ranging from pandemic control and the climate emergency to social equity, cultural identity, aging populations, and food supply.

The Festival shares: "The WAFX Award winners are all selected from entries to the Future Projects category in the WAF Awards Program, for their ambition and scope. And it's a wrap at the 2019 World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam. After three busy days of project presentations and jury deliberations, the annual global architecture industry event culminated in a glamorous gala dinner at the Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam's former stock exchange building, where the winners of various category and other top awards were announced.

The biggest anticipation of the night, of course, was reserved for the 2019 World Building of the Year title which happened to stay within the Netherlands with the selection of LocHal Public Library in Tilburg and its design team Civic architects (lead architect), Braaksma & Roos Architectenbureau, and Inside Outside / Petra Blaisse.

Floating fragmented pieces of reclaimed timber energize the lobby space of the charmingly named Hotel Hotel, located in the blossoming precinct of NewActon in Canberra, Australia. Designed by Australian practice March Studio, the hotel was recently named World Interior of the Year at the INSIDE: World Festival of Interiors in Singapore's Marina Bay Sands.

Coinciding with the World Architecture Festival, INSIDE highlights the most outstanding projects in the international interior design scene. Day Two of the World Architecture Festival Awards 2015 in Singapore just concluded with the announcement of 14 more category winners in the Completed Buildings and Future Projects sections. There's no surprise that these projects are as competitive as the Day 1 winners.

The 2015 World Architecture Festival is back at the Moshe Safdie-designed Marina Bay Sands in Singapore once again. During the two-day event, which started today and concludes on November 6, attendees get to witness the competition unfold before their eyes as they watch architecture teams from around the world present their projects and listen to critiques from the "super jury". The 2015 super jurors include Peter Cook (UK), Sou Fujimoto (Japan), Benedetta Tagliabue (Spain), Charles Jencks (UK/US), Kerry Hill (Singapore) and Manuelle Gautrand (France).

The competition is anyone's game, with this year's shortlist rounding up 338 projects across 31 categories from architects based in 46 countries — including works from renowned firms. The ‘Oscars of architecture’: World Architecture Festival opens call for entries

The annual World Architecture Festival Awards, the ‘Oscars of architecture’, is now open for entries. The awards will be celebrated at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Singapore this November, following three days of intensive live presentations and judging.

Entries are now invited from architects and designers for the 2015 edition of what is the biggest architectural awards program in the world. The awards are expected to attract more than 750 entries, about half of which will be shortlisted, in 31 categories. Reduced early bird rate ends May 1 and the final closing date for entries is May 22. Shortlisting takes place in early June.

Shortlisted entrants will compete for category prizes on the first two days of the three-day Festival, which takes place in the Suntec Centre on November 4, 5 and 6. Joyce Wang Studio’s MOTT32 in Hong Kong wins World Interior of the Year 2014

Joyce Wang Studio's MOTT32, an underground bank vault-turned-restaurant in Hong Kong, scooped up the World Interior of the Year 2014 award today at the Marina Bay Sands. The "super jury" of the INSIDE: World Festival of Interiors competition nominated 60 interior design projects worldwide, which were then narrowed down to nine category winners. When deciding upon the World Interior of the Year out of the category winners, the jury unanimously decided on MOTT32.

The 10-person team of Joyce Wang Studio explored Hong Kong culture's past and present in transforming the former storage facility, which housed expensive family heirlooms for wealthy Chinese immigrants, into the MOTT32 restaurant. The dining space has remnants of forgotten heirlooms, Chinese propaganda, and industrial accents that double as furniture and light fittings.

The winning announcements continue with Day 2 of the World Architecture Festival 2014, currently happening at the Moshe Safdie-designed Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. In the second day of the international live competition event, a total of 13 winners were awarded in additional categories for the main sections of Completed Buildings and Future Projects.

INSIDE: World Festival of Interiors 2014 reveals first five category winners

Coinciding with the World Architecture Festival 2014 at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, the just-as-popular INSIDE: World Festival of Interiors honors the very best in the international interior design scene with its annual awards competition. Starting out with 60 shortlisted nominees across nine categories earlier this summer, the first five winners were revealed today.

World Architecture Festival 2014 - Day 1 winners

The World Architecture Festival 2014 is now in full swing at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, and the Day 1 competition winners have been revealed. The international live competition is unique in that it lets anyone apply and have a chance to win and event attendees can see the competition unfold before their eyes...For Day 1, the "super jury" selected 16 winners worldwide -- including projects in Vietnam, Iran, Brazil, Turkey, and the UK.

UPDATE: World Architecture Festival 2014 adds Ole Scheeren as speaker + new conference sessions

The anticipated 2014 World Architecture Festival is less than a month away! Taking place at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on October 1-3, WAF is expecting over 2,000 visitors from over 60 countries to experience a jam-packed program of conferences, seminars, workshops, and exhibitions. This year's WAF Awards shortlisters will also be preparing their live presentations to the Super Jury for the WAF Competition.

Just recently, WAF announced Ole Scheeren — the principal of Buro Ole Scheeren — as the latest addition to the notable lineup of keynote speakers. New sessions that were added to the program highlight building sustainable cities, a look into Heatherwick Studio's work, and a series of networking sessions titled "Meet your next client".
