Architecture-inspired ship concept could become the world's first 3D printed superyacht

Multidisciplinary designer Jozeph Forakis has unveiled the concept for a luxury superyacht, christened Pegasus, that he described as “invisible both in design and in her environmental impact.” When completed in 2030, the futuristic 288-foot ship will become the world’s first 3D-printed sea vessel that produces zero emissions and can cruise with near-infinite range.

Forakis says the inspiration behind the yacht is Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s Blur Building, a pavilion that sat above Lake Neuchâtelin in the Swiss municipality of Yverdon-les-Bains during Swiss Expo 2002. The structure was concealed by a mass of fog that was formed by pumped lake water and dispensed as mist through 35,000 high-pressure nozzles.

The yacht would be constructed via robotic 3D printing to create a durable and lightweight mesh framework for both the hull and superstructure. According to Forakis, this could allow the structure to be produced using less energy, material, and time compared to conventional construction.

The yacht is distinguished by its reflective façade and its multi-tiered glass wings. The PEGASUS 88m Concept is said to have a “near-infinite range” through solar energy used to convert seawater into hydrogen, which onboard fuel cells would convert into electricity.

Individuals can now take their offices anywhere they want with the Denizen Architype, a 3D-printed, personal office pod, designed to provide an ideal remote work space. The prefabricated office can be set up in any location and is available by subscription.

Designed “for the perfect day of work”, the Denizen Archetype comes as remote work has become the new norm due to the pandemic. The 90-square-foot office pod is made to cultivate inspiration, focus, and productivity, including features, such as professional lighting, controllable privacy glass on every window, and perfectly framed camera views at the desk and whiteboard. As stated on Denizen’s site, “With 10’ ceilings and immersive windows, it’s big enough to love spending your whole day in but small enough to install anywhere with minimal permits.

John Pawson presents simplistic carved, stone miniature for Salvatori's The Village project

The work of minimalist architect John Pawson is the latest edition to Italian product and design company Salvatori's, The Village project, a collection of miniature sculptures created by a cohort of international designers.

Pawson, with House of Stone, is the fifth contributor to the project, which includes work by Rodolfo Dordoni, Patricia Urquiola, Yabu Pushelberg, and Kengo Kuma. The Village tasks its participants to create miniatures in natural stone that express their interpretation of the concept of home. The project was inspired during the 2020 lockdown and Salvatori CEO, Gabriele Salvatori’s reflections on the importance of home.

For House of Stone, a single block of Pietra d’Avola limestone is carved and cut to create slits that allow light to permeate its newly formed apertures.

Atelier RZLBD proposes 35-mile-long, hovering megastructure above Toronto's Yonge Street in love letter

Through a series of postcards and a love letter, Toronto-based practice Atelier RZLBD has proposed a conceptual project that would add a 35-mile long tower above Toronto’s Yonge Street, the longest street in the world.

Titled #YongeCity, the megastructure would be composed of space frame and shipping containers. But most importantly, it would accommodate 134,000 inhabitants, aiming to reduce the housing market gap in Toronto. According to the firm, this elevated “line” above Yonge Street symbolizes equality and diversity as it is accessible and occupiable to everyone regardless of financial standing or cultural background.

Re-imagining this traditional museum display of automobiles, and with an intent to instill the true experience of personal freedom conveyed by automobile, Jared Zaugg, an automotive lifestyle brand specialist and multifaceted expert envisioned the concept of setting the exhibit en Plein air (outdoors). Zaugg pictured the idea of “Porsches in Nature” an assortment of significant Porsche models placed amidst a breathtaking landscape, where the sense of scale is softened by the massive expanse of nature’s backdrop.

REX's Necklace Residence brings a family's dream home one step closer to reality

REX recently unveiled the final design for the Necklace Residence, a yet-to-be-built, luxurious family dream home of its own kind. Overlooking the Long Island Sound, the intricately designed 43,500-square-foot project is an ensemble of five private family homes created for a husband and wife, their four children, and each of their children's future families. It was designed so that each home can be experienced autonomously while being part of a larger domestic network, like a necklace, REX describes.

The Necklace Residence's layout also allows the family to experience different views of the surrounding landscape, from a dense forest on one side to the ocean on the other.

The city as fulfillment center: architects envision New York after Amazon

One of ARO’s two concepts shows a huge white building emblazoned with the Amazon logo. [...] It’s a never-ending fulfillment center that the architects dub “Continuous Fulfillment.” According to ARO principals Adam Yarinsky and Stephen Cassell, the idea is an homage to a 1969 concept from the Italian radical architecture firm Superstudio called “The Continuous Monument.” The idea posits that technology will render the built environment uniform, turning buildings into white monoliths.

Idia Designs, an architectural design firm, has revealed some preliminary details on the chosen design of its New Administrative Capital’s landmark, the “Oblisco Capitale Tower,” which is deemed to surpass Dubai’s Burj Khalifa in stature, Invest-Gate reports. “It is still a concept,” according to the company’s statement. However, some photos and videos were released, showcasing the tower’s features. Idia notes that state-run El Nasr Housing and Development is the project’s developer.

Not many specifics are known so far about the obelisk-shaped megatall tower concept Oblisco Capitale Tower by Cairo/Dubai-based firm IDIA.Design, but the promotional material hints at a structure taller than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, currently the world's tallest building.

The design description explains how the tower's architecture was inspired from Pharaonic and Art Deco styles, incorporating original obelisk proportions, lotus-flower themes, and the underlying theme of the Nile River as a connecting element.
