David Adjaye and Aston Martin collaborate on residences and luxury car at 130 William in FiDi

Five apartments for sale at Sir David Adjaye’s first New York City tower have been custom-designed by luxury carmaker Aston Martin. Located on the 59th and 60th floors of 130 William, a 66-story condo in the Financial District, the exclusive units come with a special edition Aston Martin DBX, an SUV designed in collaboration with Adjaye.

Adjaye Associates unveils design for Le Mémorial des Martyrs in remembrance of Niger's fallen soldiers

Adjaye Associates has released a design for The Martyrs Memorial, a monument commemorating those who lost their lives in the fight against terrorism along Niger's southern and western borders.

Located at the heart of Niamey, Niger, the memorial brings a new urban plaza and multi-use civic gathering space to the region. The memorial sits on a raised triangular base, creating a sense of separation and sanctuary.

Upon arrival, visitors will be immersed in a grid of 20-meter-high pillars, situated at the back end of the triangular plot. A secondary grid of trees anchor the two rear ends of the site. Each one of the concrete pillars symbolize lost individuals. At night, an array of light projects from the pillars. further emphasizing the monument's status as the civic heart of Niamey.

Designed by Sir David Adjaye, the Princeton University Art Museum has revealed the design for its new building. The structure will replace and almost double the square footage of the existing facility, which occupies a central location on Princeton's campus. Stone, bronze, and glass make up the core material building blocks of the new facility, speaking "both to the present moment and the historic Princeton context."

"Sir David’s architecture will invite visitors to see themselves as citizens of a broader set of communities, which in turn will, we hope, nurture a deeper sense of our shared humanity." said James Steward, the Museums's Nancy A. Nasher-David J. Haemisegger, Class of 1976 director in a statement. "The design will give us a building that fosters new modes of investigation, reflects and deepens our commitment to equity and inclusion and affords new moments of aspiration and inspiration."

Adjaye Associates designs Cherry Groce Memorial in Brixon

Adjaye Associates has designed a memorial in Windrush Square located at the center of Brixton, South London to honor Cherry Groce, who was shot in her home by the Metropolitan Police in front of her children on September 28, 1985. Becoming paralyzed from the incident, Groce passed away in 2011, 35 years after the shooting.

Adjaye's vision for the memorial aims to create awareness and understanding of the life, strength, and experience of Sherry Groce and her family. Lee Lawrence, Cherry's son said, "not only will this memorial acknowledge the terrible injustice to my mum Cherry Groce but it will also act as a beacon of hope. It will symbolize that lessons can be learned and, more importantly, applied to create the positive change we need for the benefit of us all."

The building tells a story.

It begins underground, in somber galleries recounting slavery’s brutality. It spirals upward, through the Civil War and segregation, into sun-drenched spaces recounting the civil rights era and Black Lives Matter. It’s a tale of challenges faced and works yet to be accomplished.

Since opening in 2016, the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture, designed by British architect Sir David Adjaye, has become arguably the nation’s most prestigious, acclaimed and beloved new structure.

On Oct. 29, Adjaye will receive the 2018 International Humanities Prize from Washington University in St. Louis.

Granted biennially, the prize honors the lifetime work of a noted scholar, writer or artist who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the world of letters or the arts. Previous winners include Orhan Pamuk (2006), Michael Pollan (2008), Francine Prose (2010), Ken Burns (2012), Marjorie Perloff (2014) and Bill T. Jones (2016).
