<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/72/721041d7dd8a4f9caa4139745aee35ea.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>CRE publication <em>The Real Deal </em>has <a href="https://therealdeal.com/2022/01/31/these-were-the-citys-10-most-active-architects-in-2021/" target="_blank">released</a> its annual list of the ten most commercially successful firms in New York City’s high-profile building market. Most of our readers will recognize these firms as regulars in <a href="https://archinect.com/jobs" target="_blank">Archinect Jobs</a>. </p>
<p>As the architects of record, these firms appeared in permitting documents for developments that totaled more than 13.5 million square feet in total area. <em>TDR</em> ranked the firms by the aggregated square footage of their business output. </p>
<p><a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/9432773/slce-architects" target="_blank">SLCE</a> took the top billing with 10 projects worth a total of 3.1 million square feet followed by <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/2249/handel-architects-llp" target="_blank">Handel Architects</a>, which had a total of five projects and 2.5 million square feet combined. The top two were followed by <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/5885730/perkins-eastman" target="_blank">Perkins Eastman</a>, which had six totaling 2 million square feet, including a <a href="https://qns.com/2018/07/plans-74-story-tower-continues-long-island-citys-push-sky/" target="_blank">planned 74-story development</a> in Long Island City. <a href="https://archinect.com/beyerblinderbelle" target="_blank">Beyer Blinder Belle</a> took the fourth slot with 1.4 million square feet and four developments, followed by <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/17175449/gene-kaufman-architect" target="_blank">Gene Kaufman Architects</a>, which registered five with a total of 1.3 million square ...</p>

New images released Wednesday afternoon show how transit officials hope to reinvent the dreary subterranean Midtown labyrinth into a modern, light-filled transit destination.
The proposal lays out two distinct options, both of which would retain Madison Square Garden, but also require its purchase.</p></em><br /><br /><p>The designs are the work of FXcollaborative and WSP.</p>

<p>The 500,000-square-foot complex, located at 1 Willoughby Square (1WSQ), is billed as "Brooklyn's first ground-up office tower in a generation," and comes designed with oversized windows, column-free 14,500-square-foot floor-plates, and blue glazed brick exterior cladding. </p>

<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/75/751df629e853d78b6f3e74c95af7a5a4.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>It is estimated that up to 1 billion birds die every year in the United States due to <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150089880/amidst-a-growing-glass-skyline-philly-looks-to-keep-buildings-from-becoming-an-avian-death-trap" target="_blank">collisions with glass facades and buildings</a>, according to experts at the <a href="https://abcbirds.org/blog/truth-about-birds-and-glass-collisions" target="_blank">American Bird Conservancy</a> and the Smithsonian. </p>
<p>This worrisome statistic has prompted municipalities to institute "bird-friendly" glass standards for certain types of buildings in cities as diverse as Minnesota, Oakland, Portland, Oregon, San Francisco, and Toronto. </p>
<p>New York City is poised to become the latest municipality to try and reduce the number of bird collisions by <a href="https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Proposed-NYC-Bill-Would-Make-New-Buildings-Use-Bird-Friendly-Glass-507944901.html" target="_blank">adopting</a> new rules that would require up to 90-percent of glass on new and altered buildings to be treated with films, coatings, and other decorative elements to ensure that birds can see and avoid the expanses. </p>

Last month, the Statue of Liberty Museum-Ellis Island Foundation launched <a href="https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/help-us-build-the-statue-of-liberty-museum-family#/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">a fundraising campaign</a> that would help the construction of the new 26,000 square-foot space reach completion.</p>
