<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/82/82d89bfceece551928c48fc954bc1983.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>A new higher ed project in Australia from <a href="https://archinect.com/koningezienberg" target="_blank">Koning Eizenberg</a> for the <a href="https://archinect.com/schools/cover/3322347/the-university-of-melbourne" target="_blank">University of Melbourne</a> has opened, bringing together student input on diversity, inclusion, and gender equity with the need for communal space. The design reference points pay credence to the institution’s progressive culture both past and future.<br></p>

It is set within a newly created student precinct whose aim is to reinstate a "pre-colonial landscape" with respect and reconciliation to the Indigenous culture of the land's traditional owners.<br></p>

<p>The development was realized at 299,000 square feet and includes a total of 249 market-rate units. </p>

<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/ef/ef68be6a8a09130ca8cfab888d617a98.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>The Los Angeles chapter of the American Institute of Architects (<a href="https://archinect.com/aialosangeles" target="_blank">AIA|LA</a>) has released an <a href="https://www.aialosangeles.org/news/news-and-blogs/an-open-letter-to-mayoral-candidates-from-brian-lane/" target="_blank">open letter</a> to mayoral candidates Rick Caruso and Karen Bass suggesting 10 fixes to zoning requirements and the approval processes that would positively impact citywide efforts to tackle an ongoing <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1671771/la-housing-crisis" target="_blank">housing crisis </a>that has taken center stage ahead of the November election.</p>
<p>Echoing the tone of a <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-09-26/column-enough-about-guns-scientology-and-usc-l-a-voters-need-more-on-tents-from-bass-caruso" target="_blank">recent</a> <em>LA Times</em> op-ed, <a href="https://archinect.com/koningezienberg" target="_blank">Koning Eizenberg</a> principal and AIA|LA Government Outreach Committee member Brian Lane wrote on behalf of the organization, saying that, as the system is currently arranged, there are "a thousand ways to 'no.'" Their letter claims that city bureaucracy gets in the way of the design community's efforts and that production can be significantly increased via the proposed set of solutions.</p>

<p>The jury chair Anabelle Selldorf and fellow jury members, including <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/533/steven-holl" target="_blank">Steven Holl</a>, <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/6135/toshiko-mori-architect" target="_blank">Toshiko Mori</a>, <a href="https://archinect.com/morphosis" target="_blank">Thom Mayne</a>, and <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/1492/twbta-tod-williams-billie-tsien" target="_blank">Billie Tsien</a>, selected this year's winners from a group of 32 nominated individuals and practices. The Academy awards four cash prizes that will provide further funding for each architect and designer in their efforts to pursue the realms of creative exploration within architecture.</p>

Wright Design Ideas Competition for Public Space. [...] We had already published PRAUD's "Seattle Jelly Bean" proposal, and here's now also the finalist entry "Park" by Southern Californian practice Koning Eizenberg Architecture in collaboration with ARUP.
All three finalist submissions are currently in the process of design phase two.</p></em><br /><br /><p>
