SHoP Architects' supertall residential tower 9 DeKalb is now the tallest building in Brooklyn

9 DeKalb, a soaring residential tower by SHoP Architects and developers JDS Development Group, is officially the tallest building in Brooklyn, New York.

Via an Instagram post, JDS Development Group announced that the under-construction skyscraper has recently reached 721 feet. When complete, 9 DeKalb will be 93 stories, standing at 1,066 feet.

The tower sits adjacent to the landmarked Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn, which was originally built in 1906. As part of the project, the bank’s interior will be restored and repurposed to form part of a new mid-block connection for pedestrians. The tower’s façade compliments its historic neighbor with a palette of materials, including bronze, steel, and marble.

Snøhetta selected to design new Norwegian banknotes

Norges Bank, the central bank of Norway, asked eight different designers to submit their proposals for the redesigned currency, to be put into circulation in 2017, and the winning design features images by Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta on one side and Oslo-based graphic design firm The Metric System on the other.

Joyce Wang Studio’s MOTT32 in Hong Kong wins World Interior of the Year 2014

Joyce Wang Studio's MOTT32, an underground bank vault-turned-restaurant in Hong Kong, scooped up the World Interior of the Year 2014 award today at the Marina Bay Sands. The "super jury" of the INSIDE: World Festival of Interiors competition nominated 60 interior design projects worldwide, which were then narrowed down to nine category winners. When deciding upon the World Interior of the Year out of the category winners, the jury unanimously decided on MOTT32.

The 10-person team of Joyce Wang Studio explored Hong Kong culture's past and present in transforming the former storage facility, which housed expensive family heirlooms for wealthy Chinese immigrants, into the MOTT32 restaurant. The dining space has remnants of forgotten heirlooms, Chinese propaganda, and industrial accents that double as furniture and light fittings.

NAU + Drexler Guinand Jauslin Transform Swiss Bank

The new Raiffeisen Bank branch designed by NAU Architecture and Drexler Guinand Jauslin Architekten was completed this past May in the historical city center of Schaffhausen, Switzerland, after the design won first place in a competition back in May 2012. The design as a whole appeals to the senses, going beyond the basic functions of a bank to creating an open, welcoming place for customers through light, color, and efficient use of space.

Henning Larsen Architects and a team consisting of Signal Architects and SLA Landscape Architects have won the competition for Nordea Bank’s new office building of 40,000 m2 in Ørestad North, Copenhagen, next to the premises of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation and the Concert Hall – Koncerthuset. The building will comprise Scandinavia’s largest trading floor of 5,500 m2 with a view of the green area of Amager Fælled.
