<p>He <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/149042568/dean-frederick-steiner-leaves-ut-austin-for-penn-design-due-to-new-campus-carry-gun-law" target="_blank">joined the school early 2016</a> in part a protest of the controversial "campus carry" weapons policy that was enacted at the <a href="https://archinect.com/utsoa" target="_blank">University of Texas at Austin</a>. Since that time, Steiner has been credited with improving the school financial position and bolstered DEI efforts for both students and faculty. </p>
<p>Steiner, who also holds a prestigious Paley Professorship and teaches in the departments of city and regional planning and landscape architecture, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the work that our faculty, students, and alumni are doing to build a better future. When you bring artists, designers, planners, and preservationists together, the possibilities are thrilling.”</p>

Esperdy, who had already been serving in an interim capacity since 2022, will take office effective July 1st and lead the college's strategic plan in unison with NJIT stated goals to become a new "nexus of innovation" just a few miles away from New York City. </p>
<p>"Sometimes a search affirms what you already have, in this case, a thoughtful and passionate leader who connects well with students, faculty, administrators and staff members alike," NJIT's President Teik C. Lim said of her retention. "Also, we gain continuity and someone who already understands Hillier and its long-term priorities. This is a win-win."<br></p>

The <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/67/photography" target="_blank">photography</a> professor takes up the position previously filled by Professor Jeffrey Haupt, who retired in November 2022.</p>
<p>Lippillo served as an assistant professor of photography at MSU since 2010 before earning the full rank of professor. He will take up the role of interim associate dean on January 1st, 2024, where he hopes to further the college’s “supportive atmosphere for faculty, staff and students.”</p>

Since August, Clarke has served as the acting associate dean of the college, which was itself formed on July 1st.</p>
<p>Clarke describes her top priority in the new role as being to oversee and coordinate all programs and activities in CAAC that support student experience, recruitment, education, retention, graduation, and placement.</p>
<p>Having joined the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/2807/academia" target="_blank">faculty</a> as an assistant professor in 1998, Clarke achieved full professorship in 2013. Within the college, her research has focused on construction education, integrated project delivery, sustainability, structures, and construction safety.</p>

<p>Steele is no stranger to leading prominent schools of architecture. Prior to his new future position at USC, he served as <a href="https://archinect.com/uclaaud" target="_blank">UCLA's School of the Arts and Architecture</a> dean <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/856304/brett-steele" target="_blank">since 2017</a>. <p>Adams was chosen for the role following an interview process that included meetings with faculty, administrators, and students. Members of the public were also invited to participate in open forums and submit comments online.</p>

Chanin School of Architecture at the Cooper Union</a>.</p>
<p>The successful candidate will become the school’s “academic and administrative leader” with responsibilities including curriculum development, supporting the school’s future disciplinary and interdisciplinary explorations, and the “cultivation of a supportive scholarly environment.”</p>
<p>Among the detailed qualifications required for the role are a professional degree in architecture, and “significant and recognized contributions to the culture of architecture.”</p>

<p>Addington has served in the role <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/149994098/michelle-addington-to-serve-as-the-dean-of-the-school-of-architecture-at-the-university-of-texas-at-austin" target="_blank">since 2017</a> and is considered an expert in the field of sustainability studies, holding previous academic appointments at <a href="https://archinect.com/yale" target="_blank">Yale</a> and the <a href="https://archinect.com/harvard" target="_blank">Harvard GSD</a> before joining UTSOA. Her efforts to spearhead a range of initiatives resulted in the successful hiring/mentoring of award-winning professors, enhanced collaboration between academia and professional practice, the expansion of the school’s <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/149967743/ut-austin-s-architecture-school-begins-new-initiative-focused-on-race-gender-and-the-american-built-environment" target="_blank">Race and Gender in the Built Environment Initiative</a>, and an increased research output among faculty members. </p>

In a recently-published joint letter, the signees voice their concern over what they call "lack of rigor" — and the subsequent negative implications on the design community — of the annual DesignIntelligence survey and ranking, describing it as "out of touch" with the goals and ambitions of their respective programs.</p>
<p>"However well-intentioned they may be," the letter states, "we believe that the DI rankings have the potential to create a disservice to the public." The deans express their disappointment that, despite allegedly sharing their concerns with the DesignIntelligence leadership and following a short hiatus at the beginning of the pandemic, the publication returned as "ratings" instead of "rankings."</p>

He replaces <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/486747/amale-andraos" target="_blank">Amale Andraos</a>, who <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150264624/amale-andraos-steps-down-as-dean-of-columbia-gsapp" target="_blank">stepped down from the role</a> in May 2021. </p>
<p>Jaque received his Ph.D. and MArch from the <a href="https://archinect.com/schools/cover/20500123/escuela-t-cnica-superior-de-arquitectura-de-madrid-etsam" target="_blank">Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid</a>. He has been involved with GSAPP since 2013, where he began teaching advanced design studios. He directs the school's Master of Science program in Advanced Architectural Design, to which <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150065946/andr-s-jaque-appointed-as-columbia-gsapp-s-new-director-of-advanced-architectural-design-program" target="_blank">he was appointed in 2018</a>. </p>
