Villalobos Hernandez as director of its Master of Landscape Architecture and Urbanism program. “Villalobos is the first woman of color and first Latinx person to be a director of a College of Architecture program, and she will bring a deep-rooted sense of equity and justice to the program,” the institute said announcing the news.</p>
<p>Originally hailing from <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/148002/venezuela" target="_blank">Venezuela</a>, Villalobos Hernandez has “witnessed first-hand the impacts of the oil industry on local communities,” bringing her to cultivate “an approach to <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/73524/landscape-architecture" target="_blank">landscape architecture</a> that prioritizes environmental and social justice.” Having exercised this ethos through her practice, Botanical City, Villalobos Hernandez now hopes to infuse the MLA+U program with the same spirit.</p>

<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/98/981633fe5e68355dec4961417c28c37f.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>A joint exhibition two years in-the-making brings together architecture students from <a href="https://archinect.com/schools/cover/393/illinois-institute-of-technology-iit" target="_blank">Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT)</a> and <a href="https://archinect.com/schools/cover/28563972/hafencity-universit-t-hamburg" target="_blank">HafenCity University of Hamburg</a> to investigate the "analogous nature" of each school's host city. Stemming from a study abroad research project led by Adjunct Professor Martin Kläschen, the students from both institutions focus on the parallels of both locations and the unique history of these "<a href="http://www.chicagosistercities.com/sister-cities/" target="_blank">sister cities</a>."</p>
<p>Chicago's special bond with the city of Hamburg was inaugurated in 1994. Through these regional affiliations, the U.S metropolis has become an even more prominent global city rich with global education, cultural exchange, tourism, and international business opportunities.</p>

Ungers and the other, Colin Rowe as exemplary urban design positions that after some forty years remain still operative in today’s context</em>". Mr. Maymind further argues that "<em>Both Ungers and Rowe share an overwhelming concern for the deployment and manipulation of precedent (with all of the baggage the term implies) as the basis for making and conceptualizing form</em>". Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Provost Alan Cramb announced today the appointment of Wiel Arets as the new dean of the IIT College of Architecture. Born in the Netherlands, Arets, an internationally acclaimed architect, educator, industrial designer, theorist, and urbanist, is known for his academic progressive research and hybrid design solutions. He is currently the professor of building planning and design at the Berlin University of the Arts. His architecture and design practice, <a href="http://archinect.com/Wiel-Arets-Architects" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Wiel Arets Architects</a>, has multiple studios throughout Europe and its work has been nominated for the European Union's celebrated ‘Mies van der Rohe Award’ on numerous occasions.</p>

Arets, who was dean of the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam from 1995-2002, will join IIT this fall and will lead an academic program originally shaped by the vision and work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
