MVRDV and The Why Factory present urban study of Marseille in new book

MVRDV and The Why Factory at TU Delft have announced the release of Le Grand Puzzle, a book showcasing the result of intensive research of Marseille. The project was made from 2018 to the beginning of 2020 by an international team of architects and urbanists from MVRDV and The Why Factory in collaboration with Manifesta 13.

"Le Grand Puzzle shows the incredible urban possibilities and impossibilities of Marseille, through conversations, analyses, maps and ideas," said Winy Maas, co-founder of MVRDV and director of The Why Factory in a statement. "It forms an urban portrait of Marseille; a constructive mirror to Marseille."

The study was commissioned as the foundational base of the Manifesta 13 Marsielle art exhibition. "Marseille is a city of flux, transit and trade. MVRDV presents a tetris-like structure you can reconfigure at Dutch Design Week

Dutch Design Week kicked off in Eindhoven over the weekend, with over 600 exhibitions and events taking place across the city as part of the week-long festival. The theme this year is "stretch," with initiatives exploring cutting-edge sustainable design, the role of robots and the future of flexible living. Projects range from shingles made of waste plastic to jackets created from self-growing textiles; from an Embassy of Robot Love to a small robotic firefly; from paint made out of fungus to a hotel that incorporates individual users’ wishes designed by MVRDV.

Titled (W)ego, the Future City is Flexible installation from the Rotterdam-based firm features nine tetris-shaped rooms that can be moved into different configurations, allowing it to adapt to the different needs of visitors.
