'Design for Good' exhibition opening this weekend at the Museum of Design Atlanta

The Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) has announced their upcoming exhibition Design for Good: Architecture for Everyone, curated by John Cary. Opening on September 23, the museum will showcase projects featured in Cary's book Design for Good.

The exhibition highlights projects around the world that embody a sense of dignity and belonging. Emphasizing the power of design on every person's life, the show affirms good design should be for everyone, not just the elite who can afford it.

MODA will host a lecture by curator John Cary on September 27, along with a lecture on October 18 by Michael Murphy, Executive Director of MASS Design Group.

Pritzker Prize laureate Balkrishna Doshi: architecture needs to invest in dignity of low-income housing

Speaking to the Guardian after the announcement of his award, Doshi said that architects and urban planners involved in low-income housing projects – as well as architectural education – needed to move away from their focus on the designer as individual to being far more collaborative, compassionate and invested in the dignity of those they house.

John Cary's recent TED Talk champions dignity in design and diversity in the profession

John Cary, author of "Design for Good", recently gave a TED Talk, "How architecture can create dignity for all", emphasizing dignity in design and championing greater diversity in the architecture profession.

Cary explains, “Dignity is to design, what justice is to law, and health is to medicine. It’s about having your value reflected in the spaces and places that you inhabit.”

For 20 years, since he was a student, he has been on a non-stop mission to make the world a more just place with the power of good architecture and design. On this week's show Ken and I talk to John about his career arc, thus far, from fighting for the rights of interns and architects as the Vice President of the AIAS, to his new book Design for Good: A New Era of Architecture for Everyone, published by Island Press.
