OMA's Morden Wharf master plan in Greenwich, London gets planning consent

OMA’s mixed-use development for London’s Greenwich Peninsula has been granted planning consent from the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Planning Committee. The master plan, called Morden Wharf, will sit on a 2.4-hectare site adjacent to the O2 Arena.

As stated in the architect’s announcement: “OMA’s scheme for developer U+I follows a years-long design and consultation process. Key to its development is maximizing the potential of the riverfront for public use and access. The site’s industrial past is reflected in the proposed mix of uses, balancing new residential development with employment and community uses. The existing warehouse on the site is preserved and will house small enterprises and creative businesses. Along the Thames’ edge will sit Morden Park, a 1.6-hectare public park, harkening back to the site’s marshland beginnings.”

New Design District Announced for Greenwich Peninsula

Today, Knight Dragon, the developers delivering London’s largest single regeneration project, Greenwich Peninsula, have announced a new one-hectare district which will be the first purpose-built district for creatives. The Design District is the next phase in Knight Dragon’s 20-year, £8.4billion plan for the area, and promises to bring culture and community to the area with a central public realm.

Open workshops and studios surround courtyards in this new creative hub formed of 16 buildings, to be situated in the heart of Greenwich Peninsula, for the use of over 1800 people. The project, designed by 8 practices, is from the outset a diverse project; each of the human-scaled workplaces were designed without conference between the practices. The result is a huge variety in form, colour, and style, with excellent transport links, thanks to the proposed new £1million tube station.
