However, diversity among newly licensed architects and NCARB Certificate holders remained the same. For comparison, 38 percent of the U.S. population identifies as either non-white or Hispanic, according to 2015 estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.</p></em><br /><br /><p>There are now more women and non-white participants in architecture as of 2016 according to the NCARB, which has just released its 2017 "By the Numbers" report. As NCARB notes in a press release:</p> <p><em>&ldquo;While several groups remain underrepresented within the profession, these trends point to growing diversity among licensure candidates, and eventually, future architects,&rdquo; said NCARB President Kristine A. Companies are ranked by the total revenue for architectural services performed in 2016&mdash;for companies that offer other services as well, such as planning or engineering, earnings acquired through these offerings are not considered in the rankings. Gensler brought in a total architectural revenue of almost $1.2 billion dollars. To put that number in perspective, the next in line&mdash;<a href="http://archinect.com/firms/cover/106465/aecom" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">AECOM</a>&mdash;only brought in $595 million in architectural revenue, though their overall design revenue was $7.4 billion.&nbsp;</p> <p>The top four spots all remained the same with <a href="http://archinect.com/perkinswill" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Perkins + Will</a> and <a href="http://archinect.com/jacobs" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Jacobs</a> taking 3rd and 4th place, respectively. Out of the top 10 firms from last year, eight remained in this tier while IBI Group and Stantec Inc. both inched forward to join this category. The new projects inquiry index was 58.6, down from a reading of 62.4 the previous month, while the new design contracts index decreased from 54.8 to 53.7.</p></em><br /><br /><p><em>&ldquo;So far this year, new activity coming into architecture firms has generally exceeded their ability to complete ongoing projects,&rdquo; said AIA Chief Economist, Kermit Baker, Hon. [...] (AIA) reported the May ABI score was 53.0, up from a score of 50.9 in the previous month. This score reflects an increase in design services (any score above 50 indicates an increase in billings).</p></em><br /><br /><p><em>&ldquo;The fact that the data surrounding both new project inquiries and design contracts have remained positive every month this year, while reaching their highest scores for the year, is a good indication that both the architecture and construction sectors will remain healthy for the foreseeable future,&rdquo; AIA Chief Economist, Kermit Baker, Hon. The majority of the&nbsp;workers seeking jobs in Qatar are escaping poverty in their home countries. They are often forced to pay recruitment fees ranging from anywhere between $500 to $4,300 that leave many in debt and hunger. The Architecture Lobby recently co-launched an initiative called <a href="http://justdesign.us" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">JustDesign.Us</a>, a certification process to distinguish architecture firms with exemplary labor practices, including fair pay, family-friendly policies, diversity, transparency, and agency.</p><p>Certification is a two-stage process. In Stage I, employees who want to nominate their firm will answer an online questionnaire &mdash; which The Architecture Lobby, the&nbsp;Yale School of Architecture&rsquo;s Equity in Design, and the Harvard Graduate School of Design&rsquo;s Women in Design developed.
