What we had never mentioned, however, is that Abloh is himself trained as an architect, having obtained a Master of Architecture degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in 2003, and has since gone on to describe the lessons learned and architecture studied during these years as crucial to his current success.
https://archinect.com/features/article/150046908/from-the-ground-up-ludwig-mies-van-der-rohe From the Ground Up: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe Daniela Leon 2018-01-26T09:00:00-05:00 >2018-01-30T06:16:04-05:00
From the Ground Up is a series on Archinect focused on discovering the early stages & signs of history's most prolific architects. Starting from the beginning allows us to understand the long journey architecture takes in even the most formative of hands and the often, surprising shifts that occur on its journey. These early projects grant us a glimpse into the early, naive, ambitious—and at points, rough—edges of soon to be architectural masters.
https://archinect.com/features/article/150043045/iconic-buildings-i-work-at-the-barcelona-pavilion Iconic Buildings: I work at the Barcelona Pavilion Ellen Hancock 2018-01-15T09:00:00-05:00 >2019-07-27T09:31:05-04:00
For our series Iconic Buildings, we speak to people who live or work in buildings of architectural significance. Is the exposure to an architectural wonder on a daily basis a source of inspiration or simply part of the backdrop?

This time we were lucky enough to speak to Marc Quintana Carreras Head of Maintenance at the Barcelona Pavilion, a symbol of modernist architecture, most likely studied by every architecture student in the world. The geometric masterpiece arranged out of glass, steel and varying types of marble was originally designed as the German National Pavilion in 1929, part of the Barcelona International Exhibition. After the exhibition the Pavilion was disassembled but its presence and reputation lingered and finally in 1980 Barcelona City Council reconstructed the Pavilion in its original site, where it has remained every since, an icon of the city.

For eleven days last autumn the Pavilion was transformed as part of an artistic intervention 'mies missing materialit...
https://archinect.com/features/article/149964897/7-famous-architectural-dropouts-and-autodidacts 7 famous architectural dropouts and autodidacts Julia Ingalls 2016-09-09T11:11:00-04:00 >2023-04-14T15:16:08-04:00
Don’t tell the architectural students with six figures of debt, but that education of theirs might not be entirely necessary—especially when one looks at the ranks of famous architectural dropouts and autodidacts. These accomplished designers either didn’t complete their formal education or simply forged their own path by virtue of teaching themselves how to design. No matter how they dodged formal education, all of these figures pursued a passionate love of their field.
https://archinect.com/features/article/133573310/completing-mies-van-der-rohe-s-brick-country-house Completing Mies van der Rohe's Brick Country House Gary Garvin 2015-08-07T13:42:00-04:00 >2022-03-16T09:16:08-04:00
There are small problems that vex as much as they intrigue us, whose answers only lead to larger questions.
