Our conversation with Mr. Freelon had quite an impact on us when we recorded the conversation two years ago. Before our recording we had already understood his incredible talent as an architect. Hearing his story, first-hand, however, was humbling and deeply inspiring. Before sharing the full-transcript of the interview, I'd like to share my co-host Ken's comment he left upon reading the news of his death...

Cross-Talk #5: 'Radical Candor'; Some Thoughts on Criticism from the Archinect Sessions Podcast Paul Petrunia2018-04-20T16:03:00-04:00>2021-10-12T01:42:58-04:00

The role of Archinect’s series Cross-Talk is to bring forward the positive aspects of the polemic and allow for the resulting conflict to bring to life an otherwise still and comfortable climate of creativity—if there can be one. Cross-Talk attempts—if to only say that it did—to allow text the freedom that the image has accepted and embraced. Cross-Talk attempts to force the no, to contradict itself, to anger, to please and then anger again, if only to force a stance, to pull out the position of the self, of the discipline and of the hour as a means to begin and maintain conversations moving forward.

Recently, Archinect teamed up with Bureau Spectacular for the Arroyo Seco Weekend festival. Jimenez Lai and Joanna Grant designed a pavilion for the event, while Archinect's Paul Petrunia and Nicholas Korody held a series of interviews within it. Conversations focused on temporary architecture, installations, festival design and planning, and the festival's host city of Pasadena, CA, the results of which can be listened to below.

We'd like to thank the Goldenvoice team, and in particular Raffi Lehrher, for recognizing the importance of architecture and urban issues, their interest in engaging the community, and inviting us to take part in this inaugural event.

The forever unfinished business: Curated thoughts from our conversation with Kevin Roche Amelia Taylor-Hochberg2015-06-10T11:50:00-04:00>2019-03-02T20:53:00-05:00

Roche is a hero of the long-game – during his sixty-five year career in the U.S. (and counting), he has trained or worked alongside seminal architectural vanguards Charles and Ray Eames, Mies van der Rohe and Eero Saarinen, and on projects for such heavyweight clients as the Federal Reserve, MIT, Ford, Deutsche Bank and IBM. Still practicing today at age 92, Roche is a force to be reckoned with, thanks to an unflagging work ethic and realist approach to the profession’s shifting tides.
