Quickly becoming a household name, Koerner splits her time running her practice <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/150134657/jk-design-gmbh" target="_blank">JK Design GmbH</a> and her role as a faculty member at <a href="https://archinect.com/ucla" target="_blank">UCLA's Architecture and Urban Design</a> department. Her architecture background is nothing short of impressive, attending the <a href="https://archinect.com/schools/cover/12171538/institute-of-architecture-at-the-university-of-applied-arts-vienna" target="_blank">University of Applied Arts in Vienna</a> and the <a href="https://archinect.com/architectural-association" target="_blank">Architectural Association</a> in London. During her studies, she was surrounded and influenced by the minds of <a href="https://archinect.com/zaha-hadid" target="_blank">Zaha Hadid</a>, <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/2739/coop-himmelb-l-au" target="_blank">Wolf Prix</a>, and <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/702/greg-lynn-form" target="_blank">Greg Lynn</a>. </p>
<p>Koerner's prowess in digital computation transformed her into one of the industry's leading 3D fabrication designers. Archinect spent some time with Koerner for an in-depth interview discussing her start as a designer, working in fashion, teaching, and what it was like <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150123592/architect-julia-koerner-blends-design-technology-and-fashion-to-help-black-panther-win-an-oscar-in-best-costume-design" target="_blank">working on the Oscar-winning film, Black Panther</a>. </p>

The Architectural Backdrops and Studio Backlots of the Inaugural Frieze LA Art Fair Katherine Guimapang2019-02-21T11:43:00-05:00>2019-02-21T18:27:03-05:00

Making its debut in a city famed for the glitz and glamour of the movie industry, the decision to host the event within the Paramount Studios backlot seemed appropriate. Accompanying the historic backlot was Los Angeles' own <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/720579/kulapat-yantrasast" target="_blank">Kulapat Yantrasast</a> of <a href="https://archinect.com/wHY-site" target="_blank">wHY</a>, who designed the indoor-outdoor art area. Riddled with architectural styles and motifs, Paramount Studios seemed up to the challenge of hosting this event in Los Angeles. But, was architecture merely an accessory to the event or did Frieze LA allow for these structures to shine in their own way? </p>

Devastation is in the details: a review of "High-Rise" Julia Ingalls2016-05-29T11:05:00-04:00>2016-06-05T22:14:40-04:00

Cutting Room: "Interiors" takes classic films back to the drawing board Amelia Taylor-Hochberg2014-06-23T12:44:00-04:00>2022-03-16T09:16:08-04:00
<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/cb/cbzsi9nqqc1aaou3.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>Filmmaking is a labor of love that shares architecture’s compulsion: to model a stratum of life down to the most precise detail, creating entire worlds that do not (yet) exist. It seems natural then that an architect and filmmaker would combine forces to create <strong><a href="http://intjournal.com/" target="_blank"><em>Interiors</em></a></strong>, a journal of reconstructed sections taken from famous scenes in classic films.</p>
