<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/lz/lzrgblawlkk0yrr8.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>Today marks the 50th anniversary of the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1071016/fair-housing-act" target="_blank">Fair Housing Act</a>, a landmark piece of <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/31196/civil-rights" target="_blank">civil rights</a> legislation that promised to provide equal access to housing opportunity for all. Signed by then President Lyndon B. Johnson on April 11th, 1968, the federal housing bill prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental and financing of housing based on race, religion, or national origin, with protections against discrimination based on sex and disability or towards families with children, added in subsequent decades.</p>

<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/qe/qeixp3fd981kguq0.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>Taking a minimalist approach to both design and production, students in <a href="http://www.aud.ucla.edu/" target="_blank">UCLA</a>’s <a href="http://futurelabstudio.org/" target="_blank">3M futureLAB</a> studio condensed micro-housing to an even smaller scale, with their 3D-printed, one-person, transportable housing unit. Conceived for the ideals of a fiercely mobile young professional, the full-scale model measures a lilliputian 4.84sq meters, and manages to include a multi-media interface in addition to a bathroom, kitchen and bedroom.</p>
