Soapbox is a weekly series delivering a curated set of lectures, talks and symposia concerning contemporary themes but explored through the archives of lectures past and present. With the plethora of lectures, talks, symposia and panels occurring world wide on a daily basis, how can we begin to keep up and if not, find them once they are gone? Soapbox looks to assemble a selection of recent, archived and outlier lectures surrounding a given theme. Soapbox looks to curate this never-ending library of ideas into an engaging and diverse list of thoughts and provocations. Soapbox is just that, a collection aimed at discovering the occasional needle in a haystack.

Brett Steele, the director of the school, is heading out to Los Angeles where he will serve as Dean of the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture. During this time of transition, the students and alumni of the AA have taken to the school’s weekly publication DUE, featured here as part of Archinect’s recurring series Screen/Print, to reflect on the past and project towards the future of the institution.

Science Nonfiction: bringing emerging technologies into the UK's architecture education Robert Urquhart2015-12-05T04:00:00-05:00>2015-12-09T01:09:35-05:00

Taking stock of emergent technologies at The Bartlett and the Architectural Association in London – two of the most innovative and genre-pushing architectural education institutions worldwide – it’s difficult to not be in awe of the possibilities. Michael Weinstock, Director of the Emergent Technologies and Design at the AA, describes the current state of just what “emerging” means: "I think we are at a kind of break point where we are just starting to get free of the imitation of previous ways of doing things. We've already got the efficiency, fewer people, fewer materials – that's the first goal, that's established. But let's remember that emerging technology is the outcome of an evolutionary process."
