Grey / Oak Apartment

This renovation updates a two-bedroom apartment through the insertion of grey lacquer and white oak elements that play on our perception of volume and surface. From different vantage points, each object might appear as a series of intersecting planes in contrasting materials, or as a singular volume or object wrapped in a continuous material. The two-toned palette of ceiling, walls, doors and panels creates subtle material and spatial contrasts against a minimalist backdrop of white walls and full height glass windows.

During construction, careful attention to the existing structural and mechanical systems allowed for the kitchen to be extended another four feet by designing cabinetry around these existing conditions. A small galley kitchen, a poorly lit entry, and a living room with little storage were reconfigured into light filled, open space that better accommodates the needs and living habits of its residents.
