Mount Pleasant Crematorium

The project tackles the existing typology of the crematorium, cemetery and also process of death. The current system is one which was created to partitioned death from regular urban life and would therefore push it to the outskirts of the city.  The poor or non-existent sanitation and services in the city in the mid 19th Century meant that death, even after the event, would be a further threat to the living and not just a sad moment in people's lives.

The driving initiative of this project is to readdress out relationship with death by bringing it back to the centre of the city and to use modern architecture and technologies in order to successfully do so and integrate it back into the urban fabric.
