Dear Selection Committee:

My story has always been about taking initiatives in all the spheres of my experience, from the design of a detail, as I believe good design mandates a technical expertise; a non profit work in community development; a personal process through art; or pedagogy.  My experience has been culturally diverse and atypical and I carry the ability and tools to learn, implement and understand the multifaceted and diversified process of the architectural field with sustainability and green tools during all phases of construction and design. I am sensitive to the cultural diversity of people, community and the environment both nationally and internationally.

My love is for good design-at times invention is necessitated-and bringing it alive. I believe, being a design professional means understanding the technical field of architecture and engineering with its management. After having worked with various firms for about 13 years, and some personal losses and changes, I started my own solo practice with focus in sustainable and green design, but not limited by it. I am a licensed and registered architect and LEED certified with the USGBC.

In addition, I understand the design and the technical aspects with the management process of the built environment, not only in terms of materials and engineering systems with their specifications, but also the science of the natural forces that affect the built environment and the integrated design and construction process required with people in mind. Throughout my experience my focus has been sustainable and green design and historic preservation, if a project allows. During my tenure at Centerbrook Architects in Connecticut, I initiated a sustainable and green building for the Hotchkiss Music and Art Center Addition and Renovation project.  It was my first LEED certified building with the US Green Building Council in 2003. I was responsible for, not only initiating green building, but also, designing, detailing and drawing with green materials as project architect, and doing engineering coordination; and at times, inventing, engineering and proposing plausibility’s when no solution existed.  At Centerbrook Architects we were published in the Eco Structures magazine 2006. In all the firms I have worked, including my own solo practice, I have initiated and rendered a unique approach to the built environment specifically in sacred architecture and its initiatives. In addition, during my tenure at BSA Design I initiated its green team and various design solutions in every project and was involved including competitions; during my tenure at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Chicago, I presented on green roofs as part of the SOM continuing education, led the team in green roof design and construction; and was involved in a competition entry.

Alongside, my present architecture practice, I have been leading and teaching a course on Sustainable Construction, with historic preservation, at Indiana University-Purdue University, while collaborating with a local historic preservation organization, where I established and managed the criteria for a scholarship.  In addition, I am a published artist and a founder of a non profit charity, which I manage and implement to serve community. The foundation will be receiving a ‘Spirit of Philanthropy’ Award by Indiana University in April 2015. In my consultancy a notable project was the designing of-to design development- a library for the lost boys of Panyijiar in South Sudan for the non profit organization called PACODES, providing a place to harbor knowledge for a war torn community in dearth of education; and also have worked on various designs from the US to Karachi, Pakistan.

I view the design of the built environment as a service and value to society and the natural world; as an integrated place of various disciplines collaborating with the community and the environment they serve.  I believe the success of a team is like a chain, which is only as good as its individual components.

In short, I am interested in working with your firm. I carry the vital set of tools  and experiences to serve and learn from Foster & Partners.  I am able to handle circumstances that confront any architectural, science and engineering project with a multifaceted team, with creativity and a structured and codified understanding with people sensitivity. I look forward to discussing my background with you further. In addition to having family living in the Bay area, I intend to move to California. I am planning to be in the Bay area in July to August if you would like to interview me.

Thank you, in advance, for your consideration.  I look forward to hearing from you.
