Located in the heart of Hue city, nearby The Hue Citadel, Dong Ba Market is a popular destination for tourists. As the market is the oldest and largest of its kind in Hue, it sells a variety of items inside and outside the building. When I visited Dong Ba Market in person in 2016, the market was directly adjacent to Perfume River (Sông Huong), but its access to the river was inconvenient and the natural scenery was blocked by street vendors and bushes on narrow alleys. Therefore, I designed such an isolated island-like Dong Ba Market to be transformed into the shape stretching out toward the river so that it could make much better use of the tourism, transportation and natural resources around it. Dongba Market with the new green space, which becomes a green axis connecting the two parks located on either side of the market, the new boardwalk toward Perfume river and the new canal in-between will establish itself as another landmark and iconic landscape of Hue, offering a unique experience of walking and relaxing with nature.
