Hotfloor Laurentius Hospital

The Laurentius Hospital in Roermond is facing the task of breathing new life into a stagnant building complex over the next few years. The initial idea was to gradually replace and demolish the existing buildings. Wiegerinck architectuur stedenbouw has taken the approach to re-energise the existing buildings with a very specific boost.

By adding a hot floor, i.e. the part of the building that houses the most complex facilities in technical terms, and a new main entrance. This will also create a new ‘face’ for the hospital. The hot floor will be built right next to the hospital and will take up part of the existing building. The position that has been chosen will ensure that the hospital remains open during the building work. A covered central corridor between the hot floor, the entrance hall and the existing building units will form the new heart of the hospital.

The hospital’s existing buildings will be renovated piece by piece at a later stage.
