Perry Point VA Medical Center, New Psychosocial Program Treatment Unit

Located on the picturesque banks of the Chesapeake Bay and Susquehanna River, this new 22,000-SF, 24-bed Psychosocial Treatment Program Unit will provide inpatient, mental health treatment and support space for the patients at the Perry Point VA Medical Center.   The team’s design will not only focus on being contextual to existing campus buildings, but will also provide a patient-centered “just like home” design to support the healing process.

Organized along a long center spine, the 24H replacement building includes four residential wings with the center of the facility housing community, treatment and additional outpatient rooms.     The Evidence-based interior design will respond to the needs of residents as they journey through the program to wellness.  A warm, welcoming and familiar environment is provided to help calm patients and promote their participation in treatment and their rehabilitation and recovery.

AE Works’ design incorporates the “household” concepts providing individual resident bedrooms and bathrooms within 4 separate ‘homes’, or wings. The space provides the Neighborhood with social activities and public space, as well as access to a courtyard.   The design will be developed to provide maximum views of the outdoors, Courtyards, and bay.

Also, of significance and demonstrating our team's design abilities with complex structures, this project also includes a connection corridor to Building 364 for deliveries.
