4th Floor Office Relocation, Erie VAMC

Designed to meet LEED Silver requirements, this 12,140-SF renovation converts the existing 4th Floor inpatient Community Living Center to administrative offices for the Business Office and Fiscal Services. The renovation will consolidate the offices of Fiscal Services and the Business Office that are currently housed in three different buildings throughout the campus.

The design will provide open, collaborative offices with shared support spaces and amenities, including a kitchen and break room. The planning focuses on improving adjacencies to enhance efficiencies. The new Fiscal Services suite will be situated on the east side of the floor and will consist of mostly open work space, several private offices, a small work area, receptionist and patient meeting room. The Business Operations suite, located on the west side of the floor, is organized in a similar fashion with room for 19 staff. The rest of the area on the floor will be dedicated to a Consolidated Patient Account Center (CPAC) office suite, a Records suite, and a finished-out area on the west end of the building for an additional department not yet determined. Restrooms, conference rooms, utility rooms and a kitchen are all located off of the central lobby and are designed to be shared by all staff members on the floor.

Creating an environment that enhances the work and collaboration on the 4th floor, the interior design and selected materials convey a clean, comfortable, and professional space to both employees and visitors. Hallways, conference rooms, and employee areas will be well-defined by materials chosen for easy circulation. Color is also infused throughout to give the space a fresh look and feel, but maintain a professional and healthy setting. Supported by LED lighting, the design was developed to enhance access to natural light throughout the floor.

The renovation also involves infrastructure upgrades, including a new energy-efficient variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heat recovery system and relocation of telecomm backbone to meet new space requirements. Specifically regarding the telecom design, to ensure a responsive and precise infrastructure design, our team conducted extensive surveys of existing conditions and worked closely with the architecture team to determine the best location for the new closet.
