Below your feet - Sculpture museum in Leganés (Madrid, Spain)

The project consisted in designing a sculpture museum with an outdoor and indoor exhibition in a preexisting park with a historical building. The aim was to preserve all the preexisting trees and the building and generate a public space to relate the interior and exterior exhibitions. The museum is placed under the only tree-free area in the site to avoid the destruction of the green area, and the preexisting building is assigned with a function different from the museum. A patio system organizes the exterior and the interior of the project, generating a visual relation between both and obtaining natural light and ventilation in the inside. The patios allow the visitor in the public space to understand there is another exhibition under their feet, suggesting them to visit it. The built volume is placed strategically as an articulation between the new museum and the park, being visible from both sides and unifying the project and the whole site.
