In this project, students would have to design an apartment complex with affordable housing units in West Hollywood. Students had to research the site thoroughly by looking at California and West Holly-wood building codes and the demographics of the city. Students had to produce a set of construction drawings that include architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing. The project consists of 12 units with 3 one-bedroom units and 9 studio units; of those units, the 4 units on the ground floor are ADA compliant. The layout of the units was designed according to a predominantly young adult demographic in West Hollywood. The layout of the various units was designed utilizing a mezzanine to create a private area that would be a comfortable and efficient space to inhabit while also keeping the unit feeling open. The units also have a balcony overlooking the garden space; as the garden and the exterior design of the building was designed to be inviting to people. Using a soft color palette and wood siding to achieve an inviting environment.
