Jesse Taylor is the founder and director of Social Works, an architecture practice based in Los Angeles.  Using architecture and art to explore the intersection of social, economic, and environmental sustainability, his work is focused on societies and the environments that shape them.

Before starting Social Works, he worked at numerous architecture and design firms including Food New York, Family New York, Huff + Gooden, and Hassell Studios.

His most notable clients and collaborators include Virgil Abloh, Tom Sachs, Kanye West, Axel Vervoordt, Playlab Inc, and Fools Gold.

He’s taught at The University of Western Australia as part of their Masters of Architecture program and sat on multiple juries and panels at Columbia University, The Pratt Institute, and New York University.

He has work installed around the world that has been featured in multiple publications including Complex, Hypebeast, Divisare, “Artwork” by Virgil Abloh, The Post, Architecture Australia, and The West Australian.

In March 2021, Jesse was awarded the Inaugural $30,000 Sculpture by the Sea Artist Award.

He received his Masters of Architecture at the University of Western Australia and runs Social Works from Los Angeles, CA.



HASSELL, Perth City, AU, 3D Visualizer, Graduate Architect

I worked as both a 3d visualizer and graduate architect. I was involved, largely, in the concept modelling stages of projects and the presentation stages; creating form finding models through to photorealistic renders. The graduate architect side of my job involved documentation of commercial and multi residential buildings using Revit and Autocad.
The main software i used while at Hassell was 3ds Max, Rhino, Revit, Vray and the Adobe suite.

I prepared, presented and assessed Digital Design classes for first and second year architecture students at UWA. I taught Auto cad and the Adobe suite to my first year classes and 3ds max, Rhino and grasshopper to my second year classes.

I worked primarily on a small residential house from the concept stage through to construction drawings. I also helped with the development of public sculptures through the use of parametrics in grasshopper.

I completed my BA of Environmental Design followed by my Masters of Architecture at the University of Western Australia. I received the top overall mark, and the top thesis mark, for my masters class.

I spent a semester on exchange at the University of Arizona. I studied under Pavel Getov who organised two class trips to both Los Angeles and New York where our projects were based.

2012 Socio Design Vignette Competition, 1st Place

My project looked at New York City's overall form and offered a spacial intervention that might have been included in the cities original planning.
