New York, NY, US

I was born in Romania 1983 to internationally recognized artist parents, my mom Lucia Popian a
muralist and painter, my father Gabriel Popian a monumental sculptor
After the Romanian Revolution of 1989, with an ICCORM UNESCO scholarship and my father's
Dante Alighieri gold medal for sculpture, my parents immigrated to Rome Italy, where they
worked for the Vatican and ICCROM. restoring 2100 year old monuments and frescoes in the
old Christian Catacombs, Forum Romano and the Sistine Chapel.
In 1990 we moved to Sydney Australia on an invitation by the Australian government to work on
Architectural and Monumental restoration conservation and preservation. We became
Australian citizens in 1996. During our stay in Australia, I started working with my parents in
their company G&L Popian pty. ltd. at the age of 9, as an assistant. I was given an award of
"Youngest Archeological Conservator" for my work on Hyde Park Barracks, an old convict
prison turned museum.
We were invited to the US in 1997 for a consultancy for the Getty Institute, and a lecture
presentation on international conservation standards in Washington DC. Permanently moving to
New York in 1998. I have been working in New York since then with my parents, in the US.
version of their company G&L Popian Inc. I have worked on many prestigious projects such as
Washington Square Park Restoration, Immigrants Monument and Colombia Heights I attended
Pratt Institute in 2002 for my BA in architecture (2007), and graduated Academy of Art in
University with a Masters in Architecture (2012)
After my undergraduate school I worked in NYC for a number of firms as a consultant and
full time positions. Also teaching an Architecture program with to High School
students to build a portfolio for their hopeful admission to an art or architecture school. Also
working to promote the program with schools like Pratt, Columbia, Cooper Union, and Parsons
school of design
I speak four languages and have 15 years of actual Architectural, Monumental, and Historic
Restoration/Preservation experience. We have won several awards for our work and have been
recognized as top restoration company in NYC during past 3 months.
I became a U.S citizen in 2011 which was sitting on the back burner for over 6 years.

On top of this I am an artist, sculptor and painter, with NYC gold medal awards and
recognitions. I attribute all this to my parents that have been teaching me at a college level from
an early age never making it seen as a chore but as an incredible adventure.
I take the design process very seriously. I really don't like to compromise great ideas that will
push the boundaries of our profession for a simpler quicker solution just because systems are in
place. However I know the pragmatic limits due to my background, and all of my decisions are
grounded in a strong historical and material context. I would gladly spend the extra time to work
things out if given the chance. I guess this comes from a hands on approach where decisions
are made on real world conditions not text books.

My approach to architecture tries to be a very cerebral and a philosophical analysis of perceived
realities. My master's thesis being, "Magical Realism" tries to understand subconscious systems
and networks of behavior by analyzing very dualistic societies and their understanding of nature
and cause. Understanding common collective conscious networks and creating an architectural
threshold in the interstitial space between common "synaptic" links. Taking common behaviors
that transcend cultural dogma and social aesthetics I try to create architecture that is not only
monolithically monumental in aesthetic, but also that become an axis mundi of culture,
