Competition school complex in Casciana Terme, Pisa, Award
4th Place
The theme of the competition is to design a school complex, which should include a kindergarten, primary and secondary school. The competition also requests the design of gardens, carparks and access roads.
The presented solution aims at establishing a new way of arranging the relationship between city life, the urban center, and the surrounding landscape, starting from the functional needs expressed by the committee.
The principal structure of the project is based on outlining two linear routes which give access to four different buildings.
The “lower” building contains the collective functions. The choice of reuniting these functions in an independent building identifies these spaces as “spaces for the city”, also accessible after school hours.
The three schools are organized in three volumes suspended above the gardens.
Competition Bologna Shoah Memorial, 2nd Place
To celebrate “Memorial Day” in 2015, the seventieth anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp, Bologna's Jewish Community and the Union of Italian Jewish Communities sponsored the creation of a “Shoah Memorial” to be located on a significant site in the city.
The objective is to create a place to keep the memory of the Shoah alive.
The project consists in building a polished monolithic wall made of black concrete. The two pre-existing walls have been maintained.
The wall will be wounded by handmade engravings.
Our idea is to apply a “symbolic wound” for each year since the beginning of the diaspora, in 70 A. D., in order to create an opportunity to celebrate the event every year.
