Gabriel Smith AIA, LEED AP
Gabriel Smith is a director at Thomas Phifer and Partners where he has helped to build the practice, mentor staff and has been a leader in the design and detailing of each of the firms institutional and cultural projects since 2005. His current projects include the Glenstone Museum, Corning Museum of Glass, the Museum of Modern Art Warsaw and TR Warszawa Theater. In two decades of practice he has driven design excellence projects which have earned over a dozen American Institute of Architects Honor Awards.
Gabriel started his professional career in London at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and Norman Foster & Partners, later moving to and Eskew Dumez Ripple Architects in New Orleans, where he served as Project Architect for the University of Louisiana Lafayette Art Museum, Acadiana Center for the Arts, IGFA Museum and numerous other cultural projects. While at EDR, Gabriel also taught design at Tulane for 7 years and remains committed to bridging between the academy and professional practice. In the past decade, he has been a visiting critic or lecturer at various universities including Columbia, Parsons, Harvard, Syracuse, and Cornell. He holds a Master of Architecture II from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University.
Gabriel is a LEED accredited professional, member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and is a registered Architect in New York and Louisiana.
