Eden Environments sustainable design center, Owner Architect

I created inspiring spaces for commercial and residential clients by listening to their needs and goals, and collaborating with a team of engineers and contractors to complete the spaces. The showroom was the first of its kind in Michigan to make sustainable products available to everyone and offered numerous educational programs.

Assisted clients in establishing their needs, goals, budgets, schedules. Created architecture and interior designs to meet and often exceed clients’ expectations. Coordinated teams to bring clients’ projects in on time and within budget. Clients include pharmaceutical manufacturer, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, residential, worship, food processing.

As an architect in the retail department I worked with major retailers to create design standards and site specific spaces. Clients included Meijer (new stores and remodels) and Toys ‘r Us (Imaginarium educational toy stores). For Meijer store remodels, strong planning and coordination allowed us to completely reset stores and remain open during construction.

2010 Going Green Award from Corp! Magazine, Award

Eden Environments received a Green Industry Innovator Awards from Corp Magazine. Green Industry Innovators included a bus tour company, chemical suppliers, and retail and gift card firms. They offered green services and/or products. The Green Organizations include universities, community organizations and nonprofits who are either promoting or advocating for environmental sustainability or have engaged in green initiatives themselves.


Business Review West Michigan Inaugural Green Awards Small Business 2009, Award

Eden Environments in Grand Rapids has made itself a green resource to West Michigan since the design center opened in September 2008.

Denise Hopkins opened the business, which offers sustainable architectural, interior and landscape design services, plus green furnishings and accessories, in a renovated space. She donated all the contents removed during renovation to Habitat for Humanity.

Eden provides green education to the community and offers support to organizations such as the West Michigan Environmental Action Council.

A LEED-certified professional, Hopkins proves to clientele it is not always more costly to go green "and there is much higher inherent value in sustainable products."

The 12 companies honored for the 2008 Best Small Business Awards have been selected from among 12,382 companies the MI-SBTDC provided with confidential counseling and training last year.
