New London Architecture has named the overall winner of the 2024 Don’t Move, Improve! competition in the culmination of the annual contest’s 15th edition.
Emil Eve Architects’ Aden Grove renovation in Hackney was elevated above 15 others on the previously announced shortlist to win ‘Home of The Year’ honors. Its materials palette and overall resourcefulness were among the project superlatives championed by jury members, which this year included Ellie Stathaki, Ed Jarvis, Marie-Louise Schembri, and Jennifer Dyne.
Juror Stathaki, the Architecture & Environment Director at Wallpaper* Magazine, commented: "Aden Grove has been joyfully transformed by Emil Eve. It's a family home so it was redesigned to be purposeful and functional in order to serve its residents' everyday needs, while also ensuring sustainability considerations are taken into account. At the same time, the external terracotta skin visually signals the refresh and its new elements, while wrapping the home in a natural material and playful colour that brings on a smile."
Joining it are the six other category winners and, for the first time, the official ‘People’s Choice’ selection. They are Environmental Leadership: House Made by Many Hands by Cairn; Transformation Prize: Two-Up Two-Down House by Khan Bonshek; Materiality & Craftsmanship: Aden Grove by Emil Eve; Unique Character: Hillside House by Mike Tuck Studio; Urban Oasis: Chelsea Brut by Pricegore; Compact Design: The Green Machine by SUPRBLK Studio; Best Project Under 100K: Triangle House by Brown Urbanism; and the People’s Choice Award: Heyford Avenue by Manuel Urbina Studio.
