Education

The Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL, London, GB, MArch, Architecture Design

Our research and studies have focused on housing and automation, from tiny bits of matter to territorial-scale housing platforms. My research aims to find a middle ground between these vastly diverging scales and discover what it means to have a "home". Our cluster has developed the tools, thinking, and imagination to enable non-extractive, distributed, scalable, and mission-driven platforms for housing. Our goal is to create a more equal, sustainable, and inspiring built environment.

We understand the social and political consequences of automation and have learned from emerging tech platforms to develop community-driven alternatives for homes and housing. Our research has looked at everyday automated workflows in the present while investing in radical spatial and aesthetic agendas for the future. We have investigated new narratives for community, work, life, and domesticity in an increasingly automated world. We have also questioned topics ranging from life with autonomous entities, robots, and artificial intelligence to mobile robotic mini-factories, viral platforms, primitive materials, and activism.

The first two years of the program focused on design studio projects that helped in developing observation, design process, critical thinking, and representation skills. The emphasis was on individual and collective expression of ideas through drawing, portfolio, modeling and 1:1 making. The curriculum also included lectures on the history and theory of architecture, the making of cities and the built environment, the climate and technology. Field trips, both local and international, were also a part of the curriculum.

In years 3 and 4, alongside the design work, core modules in technology, history and theory, and professional studies were introduced to raise awareness about issues related to climate, environment, and spatial justice. These cores also included fieldwork and constructed prototypes on sites.

In the final year, (dissertation) thesis design projects were developed in the architectural design studio individually. Design units, each consisting of approximately fifteen students led by design tutors, we individually had a specific architectural agenda allowing to develop personal architectural interests and work with architecture in relation to subjects of choice as diverse as craft, film, history, philosophy, and science.
