Developed for DIFFA Dining by Design 2010, the “cradle to cradle” concept focuses on sustainability and modern aesthetics by redefining the conventional box of a typical booth through an explosion of salvaged materials. In light of ecological problems facing modern society, the materials include recycled lumber, low VOC paint, bamboo flatware, natural canvas and biodegradable sugarcane tableware. An illuminated origami flower centerpiece enhances the natural handcrafted design, symbolizing organic architecture. Together, these elements promote the concept to “leave an imprint and reduce the footprint.”
Inspired by Renaissance architecture, the design incorporates three vanishing points to both draw the viewer in and to create a natural perspective from various angles. Perspective is emphasized by a progression from small dense pieces of wood in the back of the booth to increasingly larger pieces towards the front. This forced perspective is further highlighted by a custom built dining table and vanishing lines on the floor.
