House on the Cliff

Color is both physical and perceptual. We see color, wefeel color, and we dream of color. For the color study, Iconstructed the perspective drawings of the house asgraphic compositions with no materiality. The applicationof primary colors to the drawings transformed the walls, ceiling, and floor into colored planes, which are commonelements of concrete painting and pure Euclidean space,as explored by de Stijl and Rietveld through the medium ofarchitecture. Aesthetic pleasure, following on my ownjudgement, is the final determining intention.

Design of a house situated on an Appalachian cliff overlookinga lake 100 feet below. The program is intended tosuit a young couple with the desire toescape urban life. The structure was designed with thenatural environment serving as a guide: the horizontallayering of the stone wall of the mountain and its meetingwith the water of the lake below. The cantilevered roofresting upon a four-foot thick concrete wall is a responseto those natural elements; apalimpsest contrasted in its material presence to thedematerialized colored planes of the enclosure.
