Robin Clark

Robin Clark is a curator and art historian specializing in intersections between contemporary art and architecture.  Her recent exhibitions and publications include Automatic Cities: The Architectural Imaginary in Contemporary Art, which featured work in all media by fourteen international artists (Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, 2009), and Phenomenal: California Light, Space, Surface, a Pacific Standard Time project focused on thirteen artists working in Los Angeles during the 1960s and 70s for whom light was a primary medium (University of California Press and Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, 2011).  She was guest curator of The Light Project at the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, in which artists were commissioned to make works in dialogue with the Pulitzer’s Tadao Ando building and a nearby stone church that had suffered a fire (2008) and she was curator of the Currents exhibition series at the Saint Louis Art Museum (2002-08).  Clark holds a PhD in Art History from the Graduate Center, City University of New York, an MA in Art History from Boston University and a BA in Art History from Smith College.

Marcel Sanchez-Prieto

Marcel Sanchez co-founded CRO Studio with Adriana Cuellar in 2007. The collaborative research practice focuses on urban and architectural design, with projects ranging from private institutions, housing developments to urban renewals and cultural centers.

Sanchez is assistant professor at Woodbury University San Diego where his research includes the development of design methodologies that expand on geometry as tool for urban sensing and architectural innovation. He participated in a wide-range of urban studies along the México-US border with San Diego State University, University of California San Diego, Colef-College of the Northern Border, the Municipal Planning Institute of Tijuana and the San Diego Association of Governments; with the intention to comprehend and explore the morphological and social implications of this region.

He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Iberoamerican University in México and a Master in Architecture from University of California, Los Angeles.

Jeanne Gang
Studio Gang Architects

Visionary architect and 2011 MacArthur Fellow Jeanne Gang is the founder and principal of Studio Gang Architects, a rising international practice based in Chicago whose work confronts pressing contemporary issues. Driven by curiosity, intelligence, and radical creativity, Jeanne has produced some of today’s most innovative and award-winning architecture. The transformative potential of her work is exemplified by such recent projects as the Aqua Tower (named the 2009 Emporis Skyscraper of the Year), Northerly Island framework plan, Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo, and Columbia College Chicago’s Media Production Center.

Jeanne seeks to answer questions that lie locally (site, culture, people) and resound globally (density, climate, sustainability) through her architecture. She roots her designs in compelling ideas rather than repetitive formal principles, and often arrives at design solutions through cross-field investigations in materials, technology, and the natural and social sciences. Published and exhibited widely, Jeanne also continues to teach at a variety of institutions. Since 1999 she has served as an adjunct faculty member at the Illinois Institute of Technology. As her rapidly growing practice approaches its fourteenth year, Jeanne continues to pursue creating architecture that (as New Yorker critic Paul Goldberger described Aqua) “reclaims the notion that thrilling and beautiful form can emerge out of the realm of the practical.”
