Wieden + Kennedy office space

The renovation and addition of program within an existing office design has been realized through inserted architectural volumes in the W+K advertizing office in Shanghai.

Split over three levels, with a central void providing visual and physical connections between departments, the inherited materials palette includes white oak, glass and concrete. Upon the client's request, all architectural additions to the space were to borrow from the existing palette, with no introduction of new materials.

In response to this requirement, the addition of programs including meeting rooms, reception, and washrooms are treated as 'insertions' within the existing space. The ratio of the materials of the existing palette are manipulated for these insertions. In a primarily raw existing concrete structure, these new programs introduce refined wood panel and metal framework volumes which provide a detailed and considered interface between old and new.
