Mountain Forest Park (Phase I: Historic Preservation)

About

Built in 1900, Zhuhui Pagoda is one of the most famous cultural relics in Hengyang. Located in the north of Mountain Forest Park, Zhuhui Pagoda attracting millions of people from different corner of the world to Mountain Forest Park every year. However, due to the tremendous amount of tourists and to the poor context layout, the pagoda and its context are out of good condition, and the facilities in context could hardly meet tourists’ need. In phase I, our design focus on not only integrating preservation strategies with native hydrology, green spaces, and service facilities, but also promoting an efficient use of resources, while meeting tourists’ expecting for a better experience.

Consistent Language

Apply consistent architectural language throughout the park is my No.1 rule in this project. To renovate three historic relics located in the neighborhood of Zhuhui Pagoda, I proposed an entrance plaza in accordance with their original layout and original architectural language. Inside one of the most famous park in Hengyang city, I hope the entrance plaza would become a new city icon, which reconnects human with nature, revealing the memory of the past.
