Education

Kansas City Design Center, Kansas City, MO, US, MArch, Architecture

KCDC's mission is to promote excellence in the design of Kansas City’s built environment. KCDC accomplish this in two ways:

1. EDUCATION

The KCDC engages university faculty and some of the region’s most talented architecture and planning students in a unique learning laboratory that actively explores real-world issues facing Kansas City’s future development. The educational programs are built around the resident urban design studio, through which faculty and students form partnerships with local client groups and stakeholders to develop design concepts and implementation proposals addressing major architectural, urban design and urban planning issues throughout metropolitan Kansas City.

2. PUBLIC SERVICE

The KCDC serves as an independent forum for critical dialogues about architecture and planning issues, and offers technical assistance to public agencies and local community organizations. This includes everything from hosting free lectures by internationally renowned architects to collaborating with local organizations and non-profits on projects that seek to improve Kansas City's livability.

Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, US, MArch, Master of Architecture

The NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture program is based firmly upon the complementary foundations of general and architectural education. We emphasize mastery of the knowledge, skills and understandings essential to the artful creation of buildings, spaces and places. The faculty seeks to assure that our students receive extensive exposure to social, political, economic and technological perspectives that will aid them in functioning as effective leaders in a rapidly changing global context.

In emphasizing the architect’s role as a designer of environments that responsibly address individual and societal needs, the professional Master of Architecture curriculum includes a sequence of design studios providing holistic examination of environmental design issues. Courses in history, theory, human behavior, construction, structural and environmental systems, planning, programming, and professional practice compliment students’ work in the carefully orchestrated series of design studios.

The Master of Architecture degree has two entry points. Students with little or no college experience should apply for the five year plus Non-Baccalaureate Master of Architecture. Students who currently have a Bachelor’s Degree, regardless of field of study, should apply for the Post-Baccalaureate Master of Architecture program. The Post-Baccalaureate program requires a minimum of three years of study, including a required summer studio.

ITALART/Santa Chiara Centro di Studi, Castiglion Fiorentino, IT, MArch, Architecture

Santa Chiara, the name given to this facility, was originally a girl’s academy, operating from the 1930s until the early 70s. Although the old kitchen and other sections of the structure date back to the Renaissance and earlier periods, the main structure was completed in the 1930s. The facility consists of approximately 5,000 sq. meters: classrooms, studios, dining areas, and sleeping quarters. The day-to-day living space is completely self-contained. Take a moment and read a more detailed account of Castiglion Fiorentino - located in the Santa Chiara library.

The idea for the development of studies in Italy was to provide a quality academic program and, at the same time, the opportunity to experience new settings, environments and ways of seeing. Italart is a non-profit cultural association and is the legal entity responsible for the administration of the study center. Italart follows the guidelines determined by law for cultural associations, offering services to enrolled participants of the association and not to the general public.
