For this large and well known hip-hop record label, refinement comes in sleek forms, suggestions for feng shui and energy flow, and an untraditional office design complete with weightlifting space, an aerobics room, a dance studio and an isolation chamber for quiet reflection. Balance was a major theme in TCA's design; these corporate offices have to communicate the success of the label while not buying into the cultural symbolism of mainstream American business. When it was published in Interior Design magazine, the writer called Tommy Boy's offices an exercise in "more upscale street sensibility." The real success of the design was to be found in the pleasure it brought to those who used the space, from senior management to reception.
