Troy Hillman

I am currently completing my final year at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan. It is here that I will acquire a bachelor’s degree of science in Architecture, as well as various traits that have made me the designer I am at this point in my career. My education also includes one year of study at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

During my education, I have learned that commitment to one’s work alongside a strong vision will lead to an impacting project. Not only is it crucial to work diligently through one’s idea, but working as part of a collective is also an important factor in working successfully towards an objective. Having the great opportunity of working in a team, with creative individuals like myself to accomplish design goals, has also been an exhilarating learning experience for me.

My long term goals in design include gaining a better understanding of my work, practicing with a team of inspiring designers, and most importantly, being completely in love with my career. 

Interests of mine lie most heavily in small scale commercial and residential projects, installations, and renovated spaces. This, however, does not limit where my interests lie completely, as I am captivated by all forms of design and architecture. I am determined to pursue a pathway that challenges me to think intelligently about design, pushes me to work outside of my zone of comfort, and generates advancements in my own work.

For me, an international occupation would mean a continuing cultural and personal growth. After studying and traveling in Europe, I am eager to experience the culture during a longer period of stay. It would be a new way of living, thinking, and working that I think myself and my work could greatly benefit from.  It is somewhere that I am not completely comfortable, enabling me to gain new experiences and flourish as a person, and designer.
