Located in the MacArthur Park area of Los Angeles, this art gallery not only has a large gallery space but also provides a community classroom, cafe, research library and space for an artist in residence.  Based upon an investigation of the Nolli Map of Rome, this building is organized by looking at shades of gray instead of black and white.  Instead of simply public and private areas, the spaces within this gallery are organized in a continuous gradient of access.
