Hybridization in the Fragmented City

The area to be intervened is located in the center of the city of Barquisimeto, Venezuela. This sector is fragmented by typologies, urban mobility, uses, blocks and density which make it completely heterogeneous and diverse. Five empty lots in the center of the city are evaluated as possible candidates, evaluating the diversity as the drive for opportunities, a lot with a hybrid environment is chosen. The fragmentation and diversity serving as the drive for the design allow the creation of hybrids with the following benefits: typological diversity, relational diversity, route and more program. The fragmentation as the lot occupation strategy allows a private and a public fragment, connecting the social center and mixed housing program with the center of the city. During creation it’s fragmented by way of heights, retreats and uses. Obtaining a hybrid completely connected and bound with its fragmented and diverse context, which could be visualized as eclectic patches or as an urban collage, proving to be an urban Frankenstein.
