Seattle’s Best Coffee

The Seattle’s Best Coffee kiosk is sited in the center of the triple-height customer service lobby of the award winning Rental Car Center at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.  The ultimate goal of this customized design incorporates functional data from a pedestrian flow analysis within the existing architecture, which includes a monumental steel and glass spiral stair and escalator extending two floors above.  With pedestrian paths encircling the project location a design solution accounting for every view angle was considered in planning the customer’s approach, including the floors above, to have no “back.”

The stainless steel structural element of the kiosk, radiating from the spiral stair, is sculpturally woven with red cabinetry to create movement and define function.  In return, the anchor of the installation extends well beyond the given tenant space and provides for a merging with the existing environment.

The flow of the customer experience begins with the option to pick up sundries, cold drinks and sandwiches prior to placing their beverage order at the POS station.  The customer continues along the same direction to the pick-up counter, which wraps round to provide condiments and an extended seating area.  Magazines and newspapers are displayed in this area for customers to pause, or for a grab-and-go on route to the rental car counter.
