NewSchool of Architecture and Design (NSAD) is collaborating with the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) to offer a design studio led by architect Kai-Uwe Bergmann, partner and director of business development at BIG. Student Scott Hook, who is enrolled in NSAD's Master of Architecture program, is contributing a series of blog posts about the design studio, starting with this first installment:

BIG-NSAD Blog, Week One

Fourteen of us, a mix of graduates and undergraduates, have finished our first week of an exciting new studio led by Kai-Uwe Bergmann, partner at Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), and local architect Frank Walden. When we were told about the BIG studio some months back, all we knew was that it would be led by someone from BIG and that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.  That was all we needed to know.  Sales pitch complete.  So on February 21st, NewSchool’s best and brightest inundated the studio committee with application portfolios.  Two weeks later, in the midst of our last push before winter finals, acceptance emails went out, and the anticipation began. Fast-forward a month, and we found ourselves sitting face to face with a leader at one of the biggest firms in the world.
