AA Visiting School Dubai intends to examine the cultural and ecological fabric of the United Arab Emirates, as a precedent to generating a series of pavilions that would represent the candidate hosting country of the upcoming expo. The process involves breaking away from the cliché of dismissing Dubai as a ‘collage city’ with no cultural or urban identity, going beyond that to formalise a novel archetype that speaks of what is it that makes Dubai a key global player in today’s contemporary world
The A.A.V.S. Seoul is a two week summer workshop focusing on the realm of corporate architecture. Taking as a given the dominant form of the typical plan, the deus-ex-machina of architectural solutions, we seek to challenge the in-discriminant sprawl of towers, strictly vertically. Each student will propose a full bleed curtain-wall facade system informed by economic and technological drivers as well as your personal critique of corporate aesthetics and your architectural fetishes.
The next edition of The Architectural Association Visiting School will take place in Jordan from September 1st to 10th. Here we will publish coverage of the 10-day programme set between Amman, Petra and Wadi Rum and share day to day events, activities and works throughout the workshop.
