Nick Mancusi - M.Arch at Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture
Brief background/experiences I am currently a graduate student at Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. After graduating with my BAS in the winter of 2009, I continue to still push forward while creating new work that embodies the energy and character that is so uniquely me.
Originally I from the New Hampshire and Boston area, I now live between both Frank Lloyd Wright estates in Scottsdale, Arizona and Spring Green, Wisconsin. As the distance and temperance of living between both places, I try to involve myself in much of the local and national architectural community as possible. I currently act as the AIAS Taliesin Chapter President.
I began my architectural education in 2000 at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH; continuing onto studying in 2004 at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA; currently I am enjoying every moment at Taliesin. I am currently the most senior student at Taliesin and also ran this past years lecture series and continue to coordinate the Audio/Visual Department of the School. Last year I was honored with the William Wesley Peters Scholarship.
Why you chose your school/program Taliesin offers a unique learning experience unlike any other school of Architecture. The School is deeply rooted in the vein of a design/build structure that strives to create a holistic understanding of architecture. I chose Taliesin because its approach to architectural education. I was never fond of the/test grade system that most schools adhere to. Taliesin offered me a chance to pursue architecture in deeper, more challenging, design provoking attitude. I am forced to do my best and reach beyond conventions rather than working towards a grade; I have the opportunity to work towards a body of built work and knowledge base that will remain beyond the walls of our two campuses.
Architecture interests My interests in architecture lead me towards that of the intimate experience between client and architect. While I do not object to the larger scale of urban and civic giants, I am more interested in the affect of architecture in micro scales. I enjoy working with people, whether colleagues or clients to come to a design that meets and exceeds that of the pure programmatic elements and the ego of aesthetic.
This attitude in interest came from my studies in my BAS program of Louis Barragan, Donald Judd, Joseph Albers, Dan Flavin, and the Baroque. Yet beyond the work of artists and architects of late, my interests were also strengthened within the work of my colleagues, fellow students, my friends; also Taliesin as a place, community, and atmosphere.
Beyond that of the built environment, my interests in architecture also go beyond into that of architectural education and the political roles of the profession. Since my beginnings of a college student, I have been a member of the AIAS. It is now currently, acting as Taliesin's AIAS Chapter President, I have had the opportunity to pursue these interests in greater detail.
Other interests All Architectural Nerdiness aside: My Other Interests.
